Margaret Chalk

Artist Profile

Margaret was born in Scotland and spent most of her formative years in Yorkshire, England.

Her interest in art began in her teens but it was not until she came to Australia that it became a hobby.

Margaret did a course in oil painting with Margie Sheppard in the 80’s and when time permitted, even though infrequently, she continued to ‘dabble’.
In 1996 she joined the Tea Tree Gully Art Group, enjoying the support and encouragement of members, until it closed a few years later. Over the years, Margaret has done several courses in coloured pencil, general drawing and acrylic painting.
She studied acrylic painting with Margaret Tuckey.

Recently, since retirement, she has attended U3A, Modbury (University of the 3rd Age) in a general drawing class.
Last year Margaret attended a course for botanical illustration, using watercolours, with Cathy Veade at the Adelaide Botanical Gardens and she continues this interest in botanical drawing and painting, with attendance at a painting group at the Adelaide Botanical Gardens on Saturday afternoons.
